Thomas McClure

“Not Much Yet, But I’ll Be Someone Soon”

Thomas McClure (born 12th July, 1999), also known as TAM or Thomas TAM, is a Scottish writer of science fiction and fantasy novels, short stories, poems, scripts, plays, and video-essays. His storytelling intentions are to have an impact, be it upon the global stage or a single person, and he seeks to motivate, educate, inspire, and open people’s minds to progressive concepts and new ideas, experiences, perspectives, and pathways of life. He is vocally left-leaning and he has progressive views which often come across in his work.

Background

Raised in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, Thomas McClure is currently twenty-four years old and based in Castle Douglas. They are autistic, anxious, and gender fluid, going by he/they pronouns.

Thomas attended the Dumfries and Galloway College in 2017, right after finishing high school, and studied NC Childcare and Early Education and HNC Childhood Practice, graduating in 2019. After a year of working as a kitchen assistant, he enrolled in the University of Glasgow’s postgraduate Creative Writing course, right as lockdowns regarding the pandemic began, meaning his course was completed over Zoom, and he graduated in late 2021, becoming a Master of Letters.

In 2019, Thomas McClure attended the inaugural year of the Bunbury Banter Theatre Company’s Young Playwrights Programme, leading to a short play he had written being performed via Zoom in November 2020. They also created this website in early 2020, releasing some of their short stories online. From 2018 onwards, Thomas has been a regular collaborator with the CatStrand in New Galloway, working with some of their youth groups both as a youth and as a facilitator, and currently serves as a reviewer for productions at the CatStrand. In early 2023, they joined the Performance Collective Stranraer, a developmental organization of artists from southwest Scotland interested in theatre, and he has attended several of their labs and workshops. In 2024, Thomas took part in Magnetic North’s Rough Mix as a collaborating artist, wherein he worked with a dozen other artists helping to develop their projects. In March 2024, he took part in the annual Creative Spaces Showcase, hosted by the Stove Network in the Stove Café.

Since 2019, Thomas McClure has worked as a kitchen assistant in a fish and chip shop, a social media and communications intern at the Better Lives Partnership, and as a bartender and bar supervisor at the Theatre Royal.
